As typical with anything President Trump does or says, the liberals, weak conservatives, and non-voting bugmen and bugwomen between 600-calorie latte sips are mocking and will mock the Space Force idea.
Before we get started, yes, we should focus on taking care of our citizens' needs, security our border, paying down the debt, fixing trade imbalances, crushing ISIS and other bastards, etc., etc., etc. That's not the point.
Remember when the President discussed Dreamers and said something like "I want our children to be dreamers"? Space Force is dreaming. It's dreaming big. It's giving our country hope. We have nothing that unifies us. Not even sports unifies us anymore. Maybe I'm too young (a millenial f****t, after all), but every time I read, see or hear about space, it's always some epic feeling I get. Whether it's Nolan's Interstellar or Neil Armstrong walking on the moon, I get this feeling in my gut that I cannot describe here. Maybe Buzz Aldrin can describe it, and that's why we should at least listen to guys like him instead of Mr. Guncontrol Giffords.
Space Force is the beginning of what scifi writers have written about for decades. Militant Nazis in Spacesuits, the left will mock. No, it's destroying nukes shot from a rogue nation, identifying asteroids (do you know how many of those we never spot until they actually pass the Earth? Like 99% of them!) that threaten the planet (insert Armageddon joke here, libfag), traveling back to the moon or to Mars or the edges of our solar system. Every idea for something big starts somewhere, and the Golden Don won't see it in his lifetime. Don Jr. perhaps in his lifetime. Barron may be the first commander.
