Glen Greenwald's Intercept covers the latest establishment gambit:  reclassify Drudge, Wikileaks, and anti-Clinton libertarian and progressive sites as "fake news".  You shouldn't even be reading this list, just let Google and Facebook starve these bad people out of ad money.

Quote

The Washington Post on Thursday night promoted the claims of a new, shadowy organization that smears dozens of U.S. news sites that are critical of U.S. foreign policy as being “routine peddlers of Russian propaganda.” The article by reporter Craig Timberg — headlined “Russian propaganda effort helped spread ‘fake news’ during election, experts say” — cites a report by an anonymous website calling itself PropOrNot, which claims that millions of Americans have been deceived this year in a massive Russian “misinformation campaign.”

It's truly surreal:  an anonymous collective of "experts" tells you who to trust via a retail magnate's newspaper division.

Quote

The group’s list of Russian disinformation outlets includes WikiLeaks and the Drudge Report, as well as Clinton-critical left-wing websites such as Truthout, Black Agenda Report, Truthdig, and Naked Capitalism, as well as libertarian venues such as Antiwar.com and the Ron Paul Institute.

Anti-war?  What are you, a commie symp?  Do you hate democracy?

Quote

This Post report was one of the most widely circulated political news articles on social media over the last 48 hours, with dozens, perhaps hundreds, of U.S. journalists and pundits with large platforms hailing it as an earth-shattering exposé. [sounds familiar -PM] It was the most-read piece on the entire Post website on Friday after it was published.

Yet the article is rife with obviously reckless and unproven allegations, and fundamentally shaped by shoddy, slothful journalistic tactics. It was not surprising to learn that, as BuzzFeed’s Sheera Frenkel noted, “a lot of reporters passed on this story.” Its huge flaws are self-evident. But the Post gleefully ran with it and then promoted it aggressively, led by its Executive Editor Marty Baron:

Posted Image

Marty Baron and His Friendly Friends assures you that the group PropOrNot (founded August 2016) is to be trusted, after all their track record...er, their reputation...er, their arguments...what's your point, asshole?

Quote

In casting the group behind this website as “experts,” the Post described PropOrNot simply as “a nonpartisan collection of researchers with foreign policy, military and technology backgrounds.” Not one individual at the organization is named. The executive director is quoted, but only on the condition of anonymity, which the Post said it was providing the group “to avoid being targeted by Russia’s legions of skilled hackers.”

We have to anonymously silence "fake" news otherwise Putin will hack our childporn home NAS.  Why do you want to know who we are, anyway?  Just blackhole this list of anti-establishment websites.  Look, we own the Janet Cooke Pulitzer.

Quote

In other words, the individuals behind this newly created group are publicly branding journalists and news outlets as tools of Russian propaganda — even calling on the FBI to investigate them for espionage — while cowardly hiding their own identities. The group promoted by the Post thus embodies the toxic essence of Joseph McCarthy, but without the courage to attach individual names to the blacklist. Echoing the Wisconsin senator, the group refers to its lengthy collection of sites spouting Russian propaganda as “The List.”

As we've seen with both Wapo and NYTimes, rudimentary editing and fact-checking now takes a back step to bloglike editorializing.  But this is certainly a new low--promoting a puppet organization with maximum opacity as a curator of a list of nefarious news baddies--it's like something out of an Austin Powers movie.  Sometimes when you look at the roaring vortex of collapsing media orgs, you experience that disquieting feeling of the world becoming dangerously chaotic.  We are living in the most interesting of times.

By the way, this is noteworthy:

Quote

Who exactly is behind PropOrNot, where it gets its funding, and whether or not it is tied to any governments is a complete mystery. The Intercept also sent inquiries to the Post’s Craig Timberg asking these questions, and asking whether he thinks it is fair to label left-wing news sites like Truthout “Russian propaganda outlets.” Timberg replied: “I’m sorry, I can’t comment about stories I’ve written for the Post.”

Managerialism 101:  simply refuse to answer any question and frame it as your "policy".

I'm sorry, I can't comment about stories I've told you.

I'm sorry, I can't comment about my sources.

I'm sorry, I can't comment about my policy of not commenting.

Quote

As is so often the case, journalists — who constantly demand transparency from everyone else — refuse to provide even the most basic levels for themselves. When subjected to scrutiny, they reflexively adopt the language of the most secrecy-happy national security agencies: We do not comment on what we do.

I think it's less NSA and more Wal-mart:  the corporate culture of stonewalling because the org itself is run by an imperious, insular executive team that regards the public, its consumers, even its employees as unworthy of respect.  Craig Timberg is just following the lead of his bosses (actually probably trained to answer in that exact nonresponsive way).

As a reminder, the media that is saying "trust us, not them" routinely misquotes, misleads, publishes fabrications, conceals sources, allows spin, and makes use of the revolving door.  Completely brazen.

In fact the role of Wapo in this far overshadows PropOrNot, which is apparently a tiny website started just about yesterday and run by one or two kooks--without the Wapo piece, it's just another "let's start a wiki".  There is something unusual about Wapo taking that particular ball and running with it.  Very unusual.

As I previously posted, a Washington Post subsidiary - Slate - has very recently shrieked with reckless abandon about how an extremely tame "conservative" website intended to document biased liberal professors is :librage: PURE HATE SPEECH INTENDED TO INCITE VIOLENCE AGAINST ARE PROFESSORS. The Professor Watchlist website is functionally the exact same as PropOrNot, which, apparently, WaPo thinks is doing God's Work. This hypocrisy is no surprise, of course, but worth pointing out as it comes from the same publishing group.

The dead-tree press is never going to go out of business just because we ignore them (if this was enough, it would already have happened, because we mostly do). They don't exist to make money, they exist to help rich people spin and signal to one another, and this is valuable enough to their (((owners))) that they'll continue operating at a loss indefinitely.

It would be pretty sweet if we got it to where they were scared to announce who they worked for when they came to our parts of the country, though.

When a control system fails, it doubles down on authoritarian measures, and tries to stop those fleeing it from escaping. It also doubles down on hysterical thoughtcrime shaming.

(((media))) = stasi.

It will end the same way - which means - when the lapdog media in its current form is destroyed, beware its Kahanes reinventing themselves as Alt Right or any kind of free thinker and inserting themselves into the new reality. Plenty of stasi scum still work happily in the Euro collective.

Individual (((journalists))) and running dogs need to be brought down now, and the owners need to be exposed and rigorously outed. Otherwise no matter how many orcs you destroy the wizard running it all will just keep spawning more.

"I think there is a certain profound lack of empathy in asserting that the only reason why someone could have voted the way they did is because they saw some fake news."

-(((Zuckerberg)))

Even faceberg is trying to warn the dying control system to STFU and adapt. But no...

"Zuckerberg hit the nail on the head. Rather than deal with the lack of connection that Clinton and Democrats made with voters — including in House, Senate, and state legislative races — Democrats and the media would prefer to reject those voters as hicks and rubes who can't tell the difference between facts and opinions, and between false stories and facts. It goes beyond a lack of empathy; it's outright contempt."

It drips off of them at every turn. The contempt for us, the contempt for black Trumpians, the contempt for reservation blacks who have to be helped, and the self loathing turned round to contempt for their audience.

"That contempt from elites in media and politics may or may not have produced the electoral results seen two weeks ago, but it certainly explains the shock that has resulted from it. That contempt is also reflected in the push to shut down commentary and pressure Facebook into editing their social media network to allow only those sources deemed acceptable by those in power, politically and culturally. They are creating a new social panic within their own circles and doubling down on paternalism. Don't expect that to end well when the midterm elections roll around in two years."

http://theweek.com/a...e-news-hysteria

Censorship isn't going to work when the audience has already left. But by all means, flail away. It is so attractive.

They also compare op ed (REAL news) to 'fake news' (citizen journalism ie the Constitutional free press).

Their opinions aren't relevant, they don't shape opinion any more. That's their fundamental problem. Irrelevancy.

Michael Tracey writes

Quote

You’ll notice that the “blacklisted” media entities include examples from both the left and right, proving that the operative ideological function of the “fake news” crusade is about discrediting media that deviates from the establishmentarian consensus, rather than enforcing any kind of traditionally “ideological” goal in the sense of the hoary liberal/conservative dichotomy.

Broadly speaking, this is a list of anti-managerialists.

Tracey goes on to say...

Quote

Much like the word “terrorism,” the phrase “fake news” will be manipulated to accord with whatever pre-existing ideological commitments its newfound opponents already espouse. There really is a problem with false information circulating on the internet, but the main perpetrators are failed media elites.

We really are fighting a post-political enemy that emerged from the revolution of quantity and mass and is sustained by pure will to power.

Report buried Trump-related ‘hate crimes’ against white kids

SPLC tried not to admit that white kids were harassed by nonwhites post-election too. This could go lots of places but I'm putting it here because it's a great latest example of the way real fake news is pushed by the media: the SPLC is to blame itself of course, but the media had to choose to push the lie themselves, any fair person would have known there would have been anti-white hatred going on as well (not to mention the actual anti-white violence caught on camera at the time). In fact everything malevolent the SPLC does is really on the media, as they are what gives the org its is undeserved legitimacy and reach.

That's exactly right.  The SPLC has done nothing to earn the uncritical repetition of its propaganda by the MSM.  In fact, it's repeatedly targeted people that it ideologically opposes as "extremists."  Pretending that the SPLC is some kind of non-partisan group looking out for the little guy is simply ludicrous; it's clearly a jewish interest group.  And it has little to do with "southern poverty" or law.
