So, not long ago a poll was released of which brands teens were aware of and thought were cool, from data gathered by Google.

Teens think Axe body spray is cooler than ESPN, McDonald’s or Vice

Quote

You want more cool? Axe Body Spray is cooler than Sunglass Hut. Sunglass Hut is cooler than JC Penney. JC Penney is just a hair cooler than Red Bull (ouch). Every single company is cooler than gonzo journalism outlet Vice (double ouch), with one exception: the Wall Street Journal, which teens rated the least-cool brand of all.

Some Vice contributors decided the children are not our future after all. Watch these ironybro types, including everyone's favorite over-privileged duck-lipped tankie son of a bitch Sam Kriss, get butt-blasted about these results.

That poll is hilarious.  Facebook is less cool than Walmart.  The coolest fast food--by a generous margin--is Chik-Fil-A.

This leads me to a long-held pet dream of mine: making diversity uncool.  Forget all the serious Sailor-esque arguments against diversity.  Let's just focus on the staggering unhip-ness of people who like it:

"Diversity is the Mom jeans of ideas."

"Does anyone under 30 actually give a s**t about diversity?"

Editorially speaking, Vice was Ga(y)vin. Post-Gavin, it's an attempt to deliver CNN to 'influencers'*.

"Diversity" means chasing down white people.

It's that simple.

Agreed.  I particularly feel that "Diversity is the mom jeans of ideas" is a compelling meme.  In fact:

The fact that the internet is awash with incredibly lame diversity pictures makes this very easy to do.

the gay couple being included stood out to me. obviously two gays in an open marriage isn't news because basically (literally?) all homo relationships/marriages are open, so what are they even doing here? It could be seen as just a latter day form of the indoctrination that they're Just Like Us: that two male gays having an open relationship is as much a curious news item as hetero couples doing it and why would you suggest any different bigot. But in the context of this whole article that's trying to push polyamory in general I think it's more the opposite: they're getting about ready to admit that marriage was never really supposed to help homosexuals embrace bourgeois domesticity, that gay marriages will be as open as they inevitably must be and that they have no intention of hiding that any longer. And from there follows the rest: it's time for hetero marriages to follow their enlightened lead...

Oh, those moments when NPR doesn't seem to realize it has become a parody of NPR.

'Tar Baby': A Folk Tale About Food Rights, Rooted In The Inequalities Of Slavery

The most keen-eyed satirist could not come up with this material.

Quote

The tar baby story in which Bre'r Rabbit outwits Bre'r Fox is a classic trickster folk tale. But like all fables, it is a double-barreled affair, with entertainment firing in tandem with a serious message. The question the story addresses is a fundamental one: Who controls access to food and water? Or, more crucially, who controls access to food and water when the rules have been turned upside down by giant forces like colonialism, slavery, global trade and the loss of the commons to enclosures?

Far from being a simple folk tale, the tar baby story is "a collective work in political philosophy," says Berkeley professor Bryan Wagner in his fascinating new book The Tar Baby, A Global History.

Media incest, WaPo snarky butthurt, Trump tweets.  It's all here.

Trump was right about the romance between Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski. But also wrong.

:hurr:

Quote

MSNBC on Thursday confirmed a tabloid report that “Morning Joe” co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski are engaged to be married, following a romantic weekend getaway to France.

I can not confirm if Joe Scarborough is Rachel Maddow in a different time slot.  I can confirm that he calls Mika "President Drumpf" when she's pegging him.

Quote

Scarborough and Brzezinski previously had refused to publicly acknowledge a relationship (though they came awfully close in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter last month), but you might recall that President Trump described the cable news tandem as a couple during the campaign.

Quote

Looks like Trump was right. Good for him. Yet he also was wrong, in the sense that he unfairly attempted to use Scarborough and Brzezinski's relationship status to discredit their political commentary.

Looks like the Washington Post is a newspaper.  Good for it.  Yet it also is not, in the sense that it unfairly attempted to call itself one after hiring bugman Callum Borchers and allowing him to blog in public.
